The problem
Gaffmate came to us with nothing online. No site, no waitlist, no way to test whether the idea would land. The housemate-matching space in the UK was full of listings-first platforms that paid no attention to compatibility or safety, especially for women. There was a real gap. They just needed something to fill it.
Strategy
- 01
Worked out what made Gaffmate different. People-first matching, built for the UK, with safety filters designed specifically with women in mind. The goal was a clear gap from SpareRoom and the generic listings sites that dominate the space.
- 02
Before building anything complex, we designed and launched a waitlist page. Simple, focused, and built to capture real interest from South London renters while the full product was still being developed.
- 03
Shaped the V1 feature set around what actually matters to renters: group household profiles, personality badges, and an onboarding flow with safety at the centre rather than bolted on at the end.
- 04
Kept the build lean and launch-ready. Mobile-first, fast to load, and written and designed to turn visitors into waitlist signups rather than just look good.
